  1. Have students read and discuss the cartoon version of the events leading to the trial of Homer Plessy. Plessy v Ferguson: Visual

  2. Students read facts concerning Plessy v Ferguson.

  3. Have students read any of the following articles concerning Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) that was the majority decision of the Supreme Court of the United States, or substitute of an article selection of your own.

  4. Discuss with students the concept of Separate but Equal. 
    Does treating people equally mean treating them the same?
     
    The Impact of the Case- Separate But Equal

  5. Have students write a diary entry on their own paper concerning a day in their life if they lived in a world where Plessy v. Ferguson was not overturned, a place where “Separate but Equal” was still the law. Have students consider school, recreation, work, and travel (car, bus, ferry and plane).
